Leopard strays in residential area in Doda captured

Jammu: A leopard strayed in a residential area in Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda district triggering panic among the locals, but was later captured. “We had received several complaints from the locals about the presence of a leopard. The animal was reportedly on the prowl in Khari area of Gundana tehsil and killed many livestock,” Senior Wild Life Officer, Sajjad Zahir told.

“Cages were put in place on request of locals and few teams of wild life were also deputed to prevent any human loss and finally, this morning we managed to capture leopard,” he added. The captured animal would be transported to Kishtwar, from where it will be sent to Manda Zoo in Jammu, the official said.

The officer alleged that local villagers are charging high carriage charges from department which in unjustified. “We have limited carriage funds with us, but villagers always demand high carriage charges. Today they are demand Rs 15000 for 1 kilometer track which is unjustified.” he added.
