Manchester, April 5, 2025 — In a heartfelt announcement on Friday, Kevin De Bruyne, one of Manchester City’s greatest-ever players, confirmed that he will depart the club at the end of the 2024–25 season, marking the end of a historic era at the Etihad Stadium.

“The End of a Beautiful Chapter,” Says De Bruyne
The 33-year-old Belgian midfield maestro took to social media to share the emotional news with fans worldwide. “If you’re seeing this post, you probably already know what I’m about to say,” De Bruyne wrote. “This is not easy to put into words — but these are my last few months as a Manchester City player.”
He added, “This club, this city, these people — you gave me everything. And in return, I gave you everything I had. And we won it all, together.”
De Bruyne expressed deep gratitude to fans, teammates, and especially to his family — wife Michelle and their children, Suri, Rome, and Mason — calling Manchester “not just on our kids’ passports, but in our hearts too.”
A Legacy of Greatness and Silverware
De Bruyne joined Manchester City from Wolfsburg in 2015 and quickly established himself as one of the best midfielders in Premier League history. Over 10 seasons, he made 413 appearances, scored 106 goals, and registered 174 assists.
During his tenure, City lifted 16 major trophies, including:
-
5 Premier League titles
-
2 FA Cups
-
6 EFL Cups
-
1 UEFA Champions League
-
1 UEFA Super Cup
-
1 FIFA Club World Cup
The 2022-23 treble-winning season remains the crowning jewel of his illustrious spell with the club.
Twice named PFA Players’ Player of the Year (2019-20, 2020-21), De Bruyne is second on the Premier League all-time assists list with 118 assists, trailing only Ryan Giggs.
Future Unclear as Club World Cup Looms
De Bruyne’s contract is set to expire at the end of June 2025. However, it is yet to be confirmed whether he will participate in the FIFA Club World Cup, scheduled from June 14 to July 13, 2025.
As speculation swirls about his next destination, one thing is certain — Kevin De Bruyne leaves behind an indelible legacy. His vision, creativity, and loyalty have redefined what it means to be a modern midfielder and cemented his place among football’s elite.
