Kedarnath (Uttarakhand), October 23 (Udaipur Kiran): The sacred doors of Shri Kedarnath Dham were ceremoniously closed for the winter season at 8:30 a.m. today, following traditional Vedic rituals, prayers, and chanting of mantras. The closure process began early in the morning at around 4:00 a.m. with special puja and worship conducted by temple priests.
The ceremony was attended by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, Rudraprayag District Magistrate Prateek Jain, Superintendent of Police Akshay Konde, Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee (BKTC) CEO Vijay Thapliyal, along with temple priests and devotees.
Following the closure of the temple gates, Baba Kedarnath’s holy palanquin (Doli) departed for the Omkareshwar Temple in Ukhimath, which serves as the winter abode of Lord Kedarnath. The Doli will make its first halt at Rampur, reach Guptkashi tomorrow, and finally arrive at Omkareshwar Temple, Ukhimath, on October 25.
With the onset of winter and heavy snowfall expected in the region, the temple will remain closed until next year’s reopening in summer.
