Reliance Jio, a company owned by Mukesh Ambani, will launch AirFiber services in India tomorrow (September 19). Mukesh Ambani announced the launch of this service at the company’s 46th annual general meeting last month. “Today, we are pleased to announce the launch of Jio AirFiber on the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi on September 19. It offers a new path,” he said in the launch announcement.
Reliance announced Jio AirFiber at the annual general meeting last year (2022). Reliance JioFiber has acquired Airtel’s fixed wireless access solution Airtel Xstream AirFiber, which was launched this month.
What is Jio AirFiber?
Jio AirFiber is a 5G hotspot that aims to compete with offerings in the broadband market. It basically works as a plug-and-play 5G broadband router introduced by Reliance Jio. This means users do not need to install any JioFiber wiring or cables. All subscribers will need a JioFiber device to access true 5G via Reliance.
Possible price of Jio AirFiber
As mentioned earlier, Airtel launched a similar service called Airtel Xstream AirFiber last month. Airtel Xstream AirFiber is a Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) solution that provides wireless connectivity within the confines of your home. This internet device works seamlessly on Airtel’s 5G Plus network. It basically acts as a wireless alternative to traditional broadband services and is similar in concept to a 4G wireless dongle. However, it is superior in that it offers faster internet speed, minimal latency, and wider coverage.
The service provider also announced plans for Airtel Xstream AirFiber. The Airtel Xstream AirFiber service costs Rs 799 per month (including 18% GST). Airtel Xstream Fiber offers a 6-month plan and requires subscribers to make prepayments for the entire 6-month period. Also, users have to pay an amount of Rs 2500 to purchase the device.
Now there are rumors that Jio AirFiber will be cheaper compared to Airtel Xstream AirFiber. According to various online reports, the yet-to-be-launched Jio AirFiber will be priced 20% lower than its counterpart.
