Jharkhand Weather Update: Cyclone Arnab Weakens, Rain and Cold Winds Bring Temperature Down Across State

Ranchi, October 30, 2026 (Udaipur Kiran): The impact of Cyclone Arnab is gradually weakening, but its effects have changed the weather across Jharkhand. Several parts of the state have been witnessing intermittent rainfall for the past three days. Rain and cold winds have brought down temperatures in Ranchi and other districts, making people feel the onset of winter.

Residents have started using warm clothes along with umbrellas as the weather turns colder.

Heavy Rain Forecast in Uttar Pradesh

Ranchi Records a Sharp Drop in Temperature

The impact of continuous rainfall has been most noticeable in the temperature readings. Ranchi recorded a decline of more than 7 degrees Celsius in its maximum temperature over two days.

On October 28, the city’s maximum temperature fell by 5.8 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature dropped by 1.6 degrees. On October 29, the maximum temperature declined by another 2.4 degrees Celsius and the minimum by 2 degrees.

During the past 24 hours, both maximum and minimum temperatures have fallen in almost all districts of Jharkhand. Rain has reduced daytime temperatures, while cold winds have brought a chill to mornings and nights.

Yellow Alert Issued for Five Districts

The Meteorological Centre has issued a yellow alert for five districts on Friday, October 30. These include Palamu, Garhwa, Godda, Pakur and Sahibganj.

Light rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is likely in these districts.

New Low-Pressure Area May Affect Southern Jharkhand

According to the weather department, Cyclone Arnab has weakened. However, a new low-pressure area is developing over the Andaman Sea and the Bay of Bengal. Its impact may be felt particularly in the southern parts of Jharkhand.

Cloudy conditions are likely to continue in southern Jharkhand until November 3, with light rainfall possible at isolated places. Fog may also occur in some areas during the morning hours.

From October 31, weather conditions are expected to gradually improve in Ranchi and several other parts of the state. The forecast indicates that skies are likely to remain clear across Jharkhand from November 4.

However, clear skies may lead to a further drop in night temperatures, increasing the chill.

Rainfall Affects Paddy Crops in Several Areas

The continuous rainfall has also affected agricultural activities. While the rain has damaged some paddy crops that were ready for harvesting, it may benefit fields where the crop is still in the process of ripening.

Dr Ramesh Kumar, a scientist at Birsa Agricultural University, said paddy crops in some fields in Lohardaga, Chaibasa, Mandar and Simdega had already matured. Heavy rainfall caused the paddy panicles to bend towards the ground, potentially resulting in losses for farmers.

On the other hand, fields where the paddy crop has only recently started ripening may benefit from the rainfall.

Agricultural Scientists Issue Advice to Farmers

Dr Ramesh Kumar has suggested that farmers take the following precautions:

  • Drain excess water from agricultural fields as soon as possible.
  • Provide proper support to vegetable plants to prevent them from falling due to rain and strong winds.
  • Stop irrigation around two weeks before harvesting mature paddy crops.
  • Farmers can begin sowing mustard if weather conditions remain favourable.
