Ranchi, October 25 (Udaipur Kiran): The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast light rainfall in 17 districts of Jharkhand on Sunday, due to a low-pressure system forming over the southeast Bay of Bengal. The department issued the update on Saturday, warning of potential weather changes across several parts of the state.

According to the IMD, rainfall is expected in 17 districts, excluding the seven districts located in the northeastern region of the state. The low-pressure area over the southeast Bay of Bengal is moving westward at a speed of around 7 km per hour.

The system is currently centered approximately 440 km west-southwest of Port Blair (Andaman and Nicobar Islands), 970 km southeast of Visakhapatnam, 970 km east-southeast of Chennai, 990 km southeast of Kakinada (Andhra Pradesh), and 1,040 km south-southeast of Gopalpur (Odisha).

Meteorologists predict that the system is likely to intensify into a deep depression by Sunday and further strengthen into a cyclonic storm by the morning of October 27 over the southwest and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal. By October 28, it may intensify into a severe cyclonic storm, moving north-northwestwards and crossing the Andhra Pradesh coast near Kakinada, between Machilipatnam and Kalingapatnam.

Meanwhile, Ranchi and nearby areas experienced cloudy skies on Saturday morning, which later cleared up. Due to intermittent cloud cover, residents felt a slight increase in daytime warmth.

Over the last 24 hours, the highest temperature in the state was recorded at 34.4°C in Seraikela, while the lowest temperature was 16.6°C in Latehar. In other cities, Ranchi recorded a maximum of 28.8°C, Jamshedpur and Daltonganj at 33.6°C, Bokaro at 33.1°C, and Chaibasa at 33.8°C.
