JEE Advance 2018, likely to be held on May 20 for admission to one of the premier engineering institutes of the country- IITs has a slight change in its guidelines. Sources say that this year, JEE Advance paper is to deviate from its original format and instead, will follow a format similar to Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE).
Till last year, the paper was conducted in online as well as in offline mode. However, starting this year, it will only be conducted in computer-based mode i.e the paper will be conducted online only.

Candidates are allowed to enter the examination center and occupy their seats at least 30-40 minutes before the commencement of the examination. Also, candidates can log in to their systems and start reading the necessary instructions 20 minutes before the test begins. Candidates are requested to enter the examination center prior to time mentioned for the exam as they will not be allowed to enter the hall in case the time limit exceeds.
Candidates will not be entertained if they reach the hall after 9:30 for the morning session and after 2:30 for the afternoon session. The rules have been more strict for JEE Advance 2018 and must be followed.

In a meeting of the IIT JEE sub-committee, all the guidelines were discussed and it was decided that no candidate has the permission to leave the hall before the test ends. “All candidates will departure at the same time”, says one of the members of the IIT JEE sub-committee.

Candidates are not allowed to carry any notebook or paper of their own. They will be provided scribble pads for rough work, says a proposal forwarded to the Joint Admission Board of IIT JEE. The format of JEE Advance 2018 has brought in several changes as per which the rough sheets will be submitted to the center before the students leave. The students must not take the sheet away with them, one rule among the strict guidelines laid down by the Sub-committee. It is expected from the students to not tamper the computer systems allocated to them. If a student is found altering the system settings or interferes with the wiring then the student’s candidature will be canceled.  “If a student is found violating the rule then he/she will have to face the consequences of it”, said a source.
For the convenience of the candidates, a virtual calculator embedded inside the systems will be made available to the students to perform any calculations during the examination.  Use of any electronic devices like mobiles, smart watches et al will be restricted to the students. Use of any of such gadgets during the examination will not be accepted and students will be forbidden from giving the exam if caught. These rules are meant to be strictly followed during the JEE Advance 2018 examination.
Before entering the examination hall students must ensure that they have thoroughly read all the guidelines on the official site of JEE. A brief knowledge about the dos and don’ts during the examination should be known to every student appearing for the exam.

One reason for the increased strictness is the recent paper leak cases of class 10 and class 12. Further, as per reports, students appearing for JEE Main will even have to go through metal detectors before the examination so that presence of any electronic device can be detected.
