Lucknow, April 4, 2025 — Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) claimed their second win of IPL 2025 by defeating Mumbai Indians (MI) in a high-octane encounter at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium. Mitchell Marsh and Aiden Markram starred with the bat to help LSG post a formidable 203/8. Despite a valiant 67 from Suryakumar Yadav, MI fell short by 12 runs, finishing at 191/5.

Mumbai Indians Fall Short in Chase Despite Suryakumar’s Brilliance
Chasing a daunting 204, MI were rocked early as both openers — Will Jacks (5) and Ryan Rickelton (10) — fell with just 17 runs on the board. The innings was stabilized by a 69-run stand between Suryakumar Yadav and Naman Dhir. Dhir fell four runs short of a half-century, scoring 46 off 24 balls, while Surya kept the scoreboard ticking with a fluent 67 off 43 balls.
The match was finely poised when MI needed 29 off the last two overs, with skipper Hardik Pandya and Tilak Varma at the crease. But Shardul Thakur’s tight penultimate over, conceding only seven runs, proved decisive. Avesh Khan held his nerve in the final over, allowing just 10 more to secure the win.
Marsh and Markram Lead Lucknow’s Power-Packed Batting Display
After losing the toss and being asked to bat first, LSG lost a couple of quick wickets following a strong start. Mitchell Marsh led the charge with a blistering 60 off 31 balls, including nine fours and two sixes. Aiden Markram continued the assault, scoring a composed 53 off 38 balls.
Despite middle-order stumbles, Ayush Badoni (30 off 19) and David Miller (27 off 14) ensured LSG crossed the 200-run mark. Hardik Pandya was the pick of MI’s bowlers, finishing with impressive figures of 5/36, including two wickets in the final over.
Hardik’s All-Round Effort Not Enough
While Hardik Pandya shone with the ball and scored a quick unbeaten 28 off 16 with the bat, his efforts weren’t enough to take Mumbai home. Questions are now being raised about MI’s tactical decisions and the absence of Rohit Sharma due to a knee injury, which affected the team’s opening combination.
MI will need to regroup quickly ahead of their next fixture as LSG continue their ascent up the points table.
