IPL 2025: LSG Pacer Digvesh Singh Fined 25% of Match Fee for Code of Conduct Breach

One Demerit Point Also Added After Gesture Towards Former Teammate Priyansh Arya

Digvesh Singh

New Delhi, April 2Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) pacer Digvesh Singh has been fined 25% of his match fee for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during the IPL 2025 match against Punjab Kings, held at Ekana Cricket Stadium on Tuesday. Additionally, one demerit point has been added to his disciplinary record.

The Incident: A Mocking Gesture After Dismissal

The incident occurred when Digvesh dismissed Punjab Kings batter Priyansh Arya, who was caught by Shardul Thakur. As Arya walked back toward the dugout, Digvesh followed him briefly and was seen mimicking writing in an imaginary notebook, a gesture interpreted as mocking the batter.

While Arya did not react to the gesture, the act was deemed unsportsmanlike by officials. Notably, both players previously played together in the Delhi Premier League, adding context to the altercation.

Violation Under Level 1, Article 2.5

The IPL governing body found Digvesh guilty of violating Article 2.5 of the Code of Conduct, which deals with “using language, actions or gestures which disparage or provoke a dismissal.”

Digvesh accepted the Level 1 offense and the sanction imposed by the match referee, as per IPL rules. In such cases, the match referee’s decision is final and binding, and no appeal is allowed.

What This Means for Digvesh Singh

Currently, Digvesh carries one demerit point. According to IPL regulations:

  • Accumulating four demerit points results in a one-match suspension

  • Players and franchises are closely monitored for repeat offenses

Though Digvesh is not facing suspension at this point, any further misconduct could lead to stricter penalties in upcoming matches.
