IMD Predicts Light–Moderate Rain in Tamil Nadu, Heavy Showers Likely in South

Chennai, 13 November (Udaipur Kiran)। The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday issued its latest weather bulletin, forecasting light to moderate rainfall across several parts of Tamil Nadu.

Heavy Showers

According to the forecast, some areas in the southern districts may witness heavy rainfall. IMD said that due to prevailing atmospheric conditions over the Bay of Bengal, light to moderate rain is likely at one or two places in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal on Thursday.

The department added that convective activity is expected to continue in the region for the next few days. Ramnathapuram, Tenkasi, Thoothukudi, Tirunelveli and Kanyakumari districts are under close watch, with rain likely in these areas. These districts have been experiencing intermittent rainfall for the past week, and officials have been advised to remain alert to any local weather disruptions.

IMD further noted that light rainfall may occur at one or two places in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal over the next two days, indicating a continuation of the ongoing wet spell. Though heavy rainfall is not widely expected, sudden brief showers — particularly in the evening or night — cannot be ruled out.

Chennai is likely to witness partly cloudy skies throughout the day. Some areas, especially in the northern and central parts of the city, may receive light to moderate rain.

Meteorologists said moisture-laden winds from the sea could trigger short spells of rain. The maximum temperature in Chennai is expected to hover around 33°C, while the minimum temperature may remain between 25°C and 26°C.

Despite the likelihood of rain, IMD said humidity levels will remain high, leading to warm and sticky conditions for residents. With the northeast monsoon active over Tamil Nadu, authorities are closely monitoring rainfall patterns.

IMD has advised the public to stay updated with local weather alerts and exercise caution during heavy showers, particularly in vulnerable southern districts.
