IIT Kanpur Student from Ajmer Commits Suicide in Hostel Room

An IIT Kanpur student from Ajmer tragically ended his life by first cutting the veins in his hand and then hanging himself in his hostel room. A suicide note found at the scene simply read, “Sorry Everyone.”

The deceased student, Jaysingh Meena, 26, was a resident of the Johnsganj area in Ajmer. He was in the fourth year of his B.Tech program in Biological Sciences at IIT Kanpur. He lived in room number 148 of Block-2 in the college hostel.

On Monday morning, Jaysingh did not respond to several calls from his family. His friends were contacted next, and one friend mentioned that Jaysingh was not in the hostel as he was on leave. When other friends tried to reach him by knocking on his hostel room door, there was no response. Looking through the window, they found Jaysingh hanging from a noose.

The friends immediately informed the IIT administration, which then notified the Kalyanpur police. Police broke open the door and brought down the student’s body. A forensic team collected evidence from the room.

Multiple wounds found on wrist, police suspect vein cutting

Police discovered several wounds on Jaysingh’s wrist, indicating he may have cut his veins before hanging himself. A page from his notebook contained the words “Sorry Everyone.” The body was sent for post-mortem, and his family was informed.

Jaysingh’s father had passed away earlier. He is survived by his mother, a brother, and a sister. His elder brother, Siddharth, said they received the news around 12:30 pm. Jaysingh had joined IIT Kanpur in July 2020 and was expected to return home during the winter vacation starting December 28.
