IG Orders Fair Investigation in Udaipur Woman’s Suspicious Death Case, Serious Allegations Against In-laws

Udaipur, January 8, 2025: Udaipur Police Inspector General (IG), Rajesh Meena, has directed the Chittorgarh District Police Superintendent to conduct a fair and impartial investigation into the suspicious death of a woman, Meenakshi Singh, a resident of Udaipur. The IG’s order came after a memorandum was submitted by a delegation of representatives from various communities, led by Meenakshi’s father and brother, highlighting serious allegations against her in-laws.

The tragic incident occurred on December 27, 2024, when Meenakshi Singh’s body was found in her room under suspicious circumstances. The police did not inform the woman’s family, and when her body was removed from the room, her husband Yogendra Pal Singh, along with other family members, allegedly tampered with the evidence. The family members claim that her in-laws did not notify them and removed all evidence, only for them to be informed later when the body was taken to a mortuary in Chittorgarh.

According to Ashok Singh Chauhan, Meenakshi’s father, when the family arrived at the Chittorgarh Police Station, they were assured by City Kotwali Police Officer, Sanjay Swami, and Assistant Sub-Inspector Chandmal that the room had been sealed and evidence would be presented to them. However, despite these assurances, the family was not informed the next day, and when they attempted to file a report, the police allegedly refused to take it.

The family’s allegations extend beyond negligence by the police. They claim that Meenakshi’s husband, in-laws, and brother-in-law were involved in mental and physical abuse, coercing her to the point of suicide. Ashok Singh Chauhan has accused his daughter’s in-laws of forcing her to consume narcotic substances and later attempting to stage her death as a suicide.

Meenakshi’s Family Allegations:

  • Verbal and Physical Abuse: Meenakshi’s father claims that she was tortured by her husband, in-laws, and brother-in-law for months. She was allegedly subjected to abuse and coercion, including a public humiliation incident where she was left stranded at Chittorgarh Bus Stand in the middle of the night by her in-laws.
  • Financial Manipulation: The family alleges that after her marriage, Meenakshi’s in-laws demanded money and property, constantly pressuring her family for financial support. Her in-laws reportedly seized her jewelry and restricted her from using it.
  • Suicide Incitement: According to her family, Meenakshi confided in her aunt and sister-in-law about the continuous threats of death and physical harm. They claim that she was constantly threatened with death and mentally tortured, which led her to feel compelled to take drastic measures.

Police Negligence: Meenakshi’s family is furious over the police’s failure to register a formal First Information Report (FIR) despite presenting evidence and testimony. They allege that the authorities are trying to protect the accused by not conducting a proper investigation or taking statements from the family. Furthermore, when the family tried to file a report, they were denied the opportunity to formally document their grievances, and the police insisted they would call them when required, a tactic the family believes is aimed at stalling the process.

Call for Justice:

The family, along with various community representatives, has now urged the IG to ensure that a criminal case is registered and that a thorough, unbiased investigation is carried out to uncover the truth and bring the guilty parties to justice. They demand that charges of murder be levied against the accused in-laws and that those responsible for Meenakshi’s untimely death face strict legal action.

Meenakshi’s tragic death has sparked outrage among her family and local communities, as they continue to fight for justice and accountability. They are demanding an independent investigation to ensure that the perpetrators are held accountable for their actions.
