Human Rights Organization Condemns Pakistani Military Attack in Balochistan

Quetta, May 1: A prominent human rights organization has strongly condemned the Pakistani military operation in the Kharan district of Balochistan, labeling it inhumane. Reports indicate that four civilians were injured and one person was forcibly disappeared during the operation.

The Human Rights Council of Balochistan (HRCB) reported that on April 25, the Pakistani army’s mortar shelling occurred in a residential area of the Lijja region in Kharan, resulting in serious injuries to two women, a man, and a one-year-old child.

The victims have been identified as Bibi Zakira, Bibi Shafika, Hafiz Tahir, and Nadia, who were allegedly denied emergency transportation despite needing urgent medical care.

Additionally, local doctor Shah Jahan was reportedly forcibly disappeared during the operation, with the rights organization stating he was taken to an unknown location while his home was allegedly set on fire.

HRCB emphasized, “The abduction of civilians during military operations and punishing families collectively is unacceptable and illegal. Reports of looting shops, seizing goods, and damaging private property by the Pakistani army and affiliated armed groups raise concerns about the chaos imposed on locals under the guise of security operations.”

The rights body asserted that Pakistani authorities are violating “constitutional responsibilities, domestic laws, and international human rights commitments” by forcibly disappearing civilians, collectively punishing them, and treating them inhumanely in Balochistan.

It further stated, “The militarization in Balochistan has increased, creating an environment where the lives, dignity, and safety of ordinary people are at risk.”

HRCB has called on international human rights organizations to urgently address the deteriorating situation in Balochistan.
