Hindustan Zinc and GreenLine Mobility Partner to Deploy 100 EVs and 100 LNG Trucks for Greener Logistics

Udaipur, August 4, 2025Hindustan Zinc Limited, the world’s largest and India’s only integrated zinc producer, has partnered with GreenLine Mobility Solutions Limited, an Essar venture and leading green logistics operator in the country, to launch one of India’s largest green logistics transitions. The collaboration marks a significant step towards Hindustan Zinc’s ambitious goal of 100% decarbonisation of its supply chain through the deployment of advanced electric and LNG trucks.

Under this strategic partnership, GreenLine will invest ₹400 crore to deploy 100 electric trucks, replacing diesel vehicles used for inter-unit concentrate transport between the company’s mines and smelters. To ensure uninterrupted 24-hour operations, India’s first battery swapping system for heavy-duty EVs will be set up, supported by three high-capacity battery swapping stations.

Additionally, Hindustan Zinc will induct 100 new LNG trucks, doubling its fleet to 200 for long-haul finished goods transportation. This expansion aligns with the company’s broader net-zero emissions target, made achievable through the large-scale integration of EVs and LNG trucks across its logistics operations.

Arun Misra, CEO of Hindustan Zinc, stated, “We remain committed to advancing sustainable practices and believe the future of manufacturing is environmentally responsible. This large-scale deployment of EVs and LNG trucks is a vital step in our net-zero journey, helping us build a cleaner, more sustainable supply chain.”

The initiative is expected to significantly enhance cost efficiency through affordable transport rates and reduce carbon emissions by approximately 236 metric tonnes per month — equivalent to planting nearly 12,000 trees. In total, the partnership aims to cut around 1,50,000 tonnes of Scope 3 emissions annually, reinforcing Hindustan Zinc’s commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by or before 2050 and supporting India’s green growth vision.

Anand Mimani, CEO of GreenLine, said, “Clean transportation is not a future option, but today’s responsibility. Our partnership with Hindustan Zinc reflects a shared urgency to decarbonise logistics at scale and establishes a replicable model for industrial decarbonisation across sectors. Through our EVs and LNG trucks manufactured by Blue Energy Motors, we are combining innovation, sustainability, and real-world impact in a way that is practical and powerful for the industry.”

Recognised by S&P Global Corporate Sustainability Assessment 2024 as the world’s most sustainable company in the metals and mining sector, Hindustan Zinc recently announced its ambitious 2030 SDG goals. These span key thematic areas such as climate action, water management, biodiversity conservation, responsible sourcing, circular economy, workforce diversity, and social impact. The company has committed to reducing Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 50% and Scope 3 emissions by 25% from the 2020 baseline.

GreenLine currently operates a fleet of over 650 LNG trucks, serving clients in FMCG, e-commerce, metals and mining, cement, oil and gas, and chemicals sectors. With more than 5 crore kilometres travelled and over 14,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions reduced, the company aims to expand to a fleet of over 10,000 clean trucks. These will be supported by a nationwide network of 100 LNG refuelling stations, EV charging hubs, and battery swapping facilities, forming an integrated green mobility ecosystem targeting an annual carbon reduction of up to 1 million tonnes.
