Heavy Snowfall in Uttarakhand’s Char Dham, Hemkund Sahib Route Covered in Two Feet of Snow

Dehradun, October 8 (Udaipur Kiran): Continuous rain and snowfall in Uttarakhand since Monday have intensified cold conditions across the state. The famous Char Dham shrines — Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath — along with the Sikh pilgrimage site Hemkund Sahib, are witnessing fresh snowfall. The Hemkund Sahib trekking route is now covered with nearly two feet of snow, making the journey difficult for devotees.

Heavy Snowfall

Rain continues to lash the plains for the third consecutive day, marking the onset of winter across the state. The Meteorological Centre in Dehradun has predicted snowfall in areas above 3,500 metres and heavy rain in isolated places across Pithoragarh, Bageshwar, Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, and Chamoli districts. Light to moderate rain is expected in Dehradun. The adverse weather has affected normal life, especially in the hilly regions.

Severe cold prevails at all four Dhams due to continuous snowfall. Hemant Kumar, Chairman of the Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee, said all essential facilities for pilgrims, including food and health services, have been ensured despite the freezing conditions. The committees at Gangotri and Yamunotri are also providing necessary arrangements for visitors.

Hemkund Sahib, the sacred Sikh shrine located in Chamoli district, is completely blanketed in snow. The pedestrian route from Ghangharia to Hemkund Sahib is now covered under a thick layer of snow, creating slippery and challenging conditions. Teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) are actively assisting and ensuring the safe movement of pilgrims along the snow-covered path.
