Heavy Rain Likely in Rajasthan from July 27, Yellow Alert Issued for Six Districts Today

Jaipur, July 23 – The India Meteorological Department (IMD), Jaipur, has issued a yellow alert for six districts in Rajasthan for Wednesday, warning of light to moderate rainfall with isolated heavy spells. The alert covers Alwar, Bharatpur, Karauli, Sawai Madhopur, Kota, and Baran, where monsoon activity is expected to remain active today.

According to IMD Director Radhey Shyam Sharma, while the weather may remain mostly dry across Rajasthan on July 24 and 25, another active spell of heavy rainfall is likely from July 27 onwards, due to a new low-pressure system forming over the Bay of Bengal.

Cyclonic Circulation to Trigger Heavy Showers Across Regions

The weather department has indicated that a cyclonic circulation over the Bay of Bengal is expected to intensify into a low-pressure area within the next 24 to 36 hours. This system will move towards eastern India, significantly impacting the Kota, Bharatpur, Jaipur, and Udaipur divisions between July 27 and 30. During this period, several areas may witness heavy to very heavy rainfall, increasing the risk of waterlogging and disruption in low-lying regions.

Rainfall Recorded Across Rajasthan on Tuesday

Widespread showers were recorded across the state on Tuesday. Bharatpur, Alwar, Sawai Madhopur, and Karauli witnessed moderate to heavy rain, with some areas receiving up to 2 inches of rainfall. Jaipur, Sri Ganganagar, and Hanumangarh also received good showers.

In Sawai Madhopur district, the Banas River bridge near Bhuri Pahadi on the Sawai Madhopur–Sapotara–Karauli and Hadoti–Sapotara routes collapsed due to the strong current, leading to disruption in road connectivity.

Tragic Incidents Reported Amid Heavy Rains

In Ajmer’s Arain region, a tragic incident was reported where two children drowned in a pond. In Barmer’s Balotra, a mini bus with six passengers got trapped in the swelling waters of the Luni River near Dadali village. Rescue teams used a crane to safely extract the vehicle and its occupants.

In Nagaur’s Khinvsar village, heavy rains led to knee-deep waterlogging on roads. In a striking visual, villagers were seen carrying a funeral procession through the flooded lanes to reach the cremation ground.
