Bhubaneswar, July 23 – The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather advisory warning of heavy rainfall in Odisha over the next few days due to a cyclonic circulation currently active over the northern Bay of Bengal. The system is expected to intensify into a low-pressure area within the next 24 hours, potentially triggering widespread rain across the state.
Remnants of Cyclone Vipa Could Spark New Weather System
According to IMD, the remnants of Cyclone ‘Vipa’ may re-enter the Bay of Bengal and evolve into a fresh cyclonic system. This development could result in the formation of a low-pressure zone by tomorrow, bringing with it a fresh wave of intense rainfall activity across various regions of Odisha.
The weather department has stated that the combined impact of the cyclonic circulation and the emerging low-pressure system is likely to cause significant rainfall events across the state, beginning today and continuing through July 27.
Yellow Alert Issued for Four Districts
For July 23, IMD has issued a Yellow Alert for the districts of Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, and Nuapada, indicating the possibility of heavy rainfall accompanied by lightning in isolated places. Residents in these areas are advised to remain alert and take precautions to ensure personal safety during the anticipated weather events.
Strong Winds and Intensifying Rainfall Expected
In addition to the rainfall, gusty winds with speeds ranging from 30 to 40 km/h are expected to affect several areas. Meteorologists anticipate a rise in rainfall intensity from July 24 onwards, with wet conditions likely to persist across the state until July 27.
