Heavy Rain Disrupts Life Across Rajasthan; Waterlogging in Jaipur, Landslide Hits Kota Rail Track

Jaipur, 3 September (Kiran News): Torrential rains lashed several districts of Rajasthan on Wednesday, throwing normal life out of gear. In the capital Jaipur, heavy downpours from early morning left the city waterlogged within hours. Streets across both old and upscale areas, including Hawa Mahal, Chandi ki Taksal, and Subhash Chowk, were submerged, with water even entering homes. Vehicles were stuck in deep water in Malviya Nagar, C-Scheme, and Tonk Road. In several spots, water levels reached up to two feet, severely disrupting traffic.

The downpour also affected hospitals. SMS Hospital, the state’s largest, saw water enter medicine and billing counters, hampering routine services and causing hardship for patients and attendants. Several localities experienced power outages. Even the famous Kale Hanumanji temple in Chandi ki Taksal was inundated, with barricades unable to hold back the strong flow.

Kota district also faced trouble as a landslide near Dara railway station on the Nagda rail section disrupted the Kota-Mumbai rail route. For safety, nine trains—including Garib Rath, Bandra-Jaipur Superfast, Mumbai-Duronto Superfast, and Swarn Mandir Mail—were halted. Road traffic was also affected near the Dara stream on the Kota-Jhalawar National Highway due to flooding.

In Dausa district, rain turned deadly. On the Jaipur-Agra National Highway near Kalakho village, a police bus collided with a parked truck, injuring two policemen and several others. Slippery roads and low visibility were cited as causes, leading to a major traffic jam as injured were rescued and shifted to hospital.

A brief but heavy spell in Fatehpur (Sikar) flooded low-lying areas like Ambedkar Nagar and Mandawa Road. The Mandawa underpass had to be closed as six feet of water collected inside.

Rural Bharatpur (Nadbai) faced more severe conditions, with several villages waterlogged up to waist level after five days of continuous rain. In Dhanipura village, residents are stuck inside their homes and children are unable to attend school. Despite the conditions, devotees in Jaipur managed to reach temples for Jaljhulni Ekadashi, braving the waterlogged streets.

According to Radheshyam Sharma, Director of Jaipur Meteorological Centre, a well-marked low-pressure area over the north Bay of Bengal is intensifying and expected to move towards Odisha and Madhya Pradesh in the next 24 hours. Rainfall activity is likely to increase across the eastern and southeastern regions—Kota, Udaipur, Bharatpur, Ajmer, and Jaipur divisions—over the next 3–4 days, with heavy to very heavy rainfall likely in some areas. In Jodhpur and Bikaner divisions, rainfall is expected to pick up from 5 September, with heavy and very heavy rainfall likely in parts of Jodhpur division from 5 to 7 September.
