Dehradun, September 4 (Kiran News): The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for heavy rainfall in four districts of Uttarakhand — Nainital, Champawat, Bageshwar, and Pithoragarh — on Thursday. Other districts may also experience thunderstorms, lightning, and moderate to very heavy showers.
Following the IMD’s warning, the State Disaster Management Authority has directed officials in the affected districts to remain on high alert. While Garhwal division saw clearer weather conditions, rescue and relief operations have been intensified in Bageshwar, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, and Uttarkashi where conditions have improved.
Continuous rainfall has disrupted normal life across the state. Roads leading to the Char Dham shrines remain blocked, prompting the government to suspend the pilgrimage until Friday.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has instructed district administrations in Bageshwar, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, and Uttarkashi to speed up search, rescue, and relief operations. He also directed district magistrates to personally monitor the situation and provide timely assistance to affected residents.
Rudraprayag Police, meanwhile, issued an appeal to pilgrims headed towards Kedarnath, urging them to stay where they are until further notice. In a message on social media platform X, the police wrote: “Due to continuous rainfall, the Kedarnath Yatra route remains blocked and unsafe. Pilgrims are requested to stay in safe locations. Information will be shared once the yatra resumes.”
