Jaipur, July 7 (Udaipur Kiran) – The monsoon, which has been pouring heavily across Rajasthan for the past week, has slowed down slightly. However, a rain alert remains for 11 districts today. Intermittent rain continues in districts like Sri Ganganagar and Hanumangarh for the past 24 hours. In Hanumangarh, heavy rain caused a house roof to collapse, resulting in the tragic death of two brothers. Continuous rainfall has caused rivers and streams in several districts to overflow.
Banash River Overflow in Tonk-Sawai Madhopur
The Banash River has been overflowing since heavy rains on Thursday and Friday in Tonk-Sawai Madhopur. This led to the closure of the Jaipur-Chauth Ka Barwara-Shivad route from Saturday. The Kota-Sheopur route, which connects to Madhya Pradesh, reopened on Sunday morning after being closed for 20 hours. Heavy rain in Lunkaransar, Bikaner, early Sunday morning resulted in waterlogging in most neighborhoods, with water levels reaching up to a foot in low-lying areas. Both sides of the National Highway passing through Lunkaransar are also waterlogged.
Tragic Incident in Hanumangarh
In Hanumangarh, the continuous rain caused the roof of a house to collapse in Chak 2 GGR of Rathikheda Panchayat in Tibbi Tehsil. The incident resulted in the death of two brothers, Amit and Sumit, and injured three family members, who are currently being treated at the district hospital. The family, originally from Bihar, had been working as farm laborers in Hanumangarh for several years.
Rising Water Levels and Infrastructure Damage
The sudden overflow of the Banash River on Saturday afternoon caused water to flow over a culvert on the road from Chauth Ka Barwara to Shivad and Jaipur, which has been closed for the past 19 hours. The rain-swollen Parvati River also affected the road connecting Kota to Madhya Pradesh, cutting off the connection until the water receded on Sunday morning.
Rainfall in Various Districts
Due to continuous rainfall for two days, the Lava Panchayat in Tonk district has been cut off from Ganeshpura, Bherupura, Balapura, and Nayagaon Bagria’s Dhanis. The water overflow on the Vijay Sagar Dam culvert continued until Sunday morning. Villagers reported a lack of electricity in Lava since Thursday night, and residents of Nayagaon have risked crossing the two-and-a-half-foot deep water flow to purchase essentials.
Weather Forecast and Warnings
On Saturday, light rain was reported in some areas of the northeastern parts of the state, while the rest of Rajasthan experienced dry weather. Although Jaipur remained cloudy throughout the day, it did not rain. Western Rajasthan, including districts in Jodhpur and Ajmer divisions, did not receive any rain on Saturday. Apart from Sirohi, the Udaipur division remained dry as well.
The Jaipur Meteorological Center has issued a rain alert for 11 districts in eastern Rajasthan today. No alert has been issued for the other districts. Dry weather is expected across the state on July 8-9. In some areas of eastern Rajasthan, cloudy skies with light sporadic rain are possible.
Over the past 24 hours, light to moderate rain has occurred in Sirohi, Karauli, Jhunjhunu, Sawai Madhopur, Ganganagar, Dholpur, Churu, Bharatpur, and Baran districts. The highest rainfall of 36 mm was recorded in Gudha Gorji, Jhunjhunu district. The increasing influence of western winds has halted the flow of monsoon winds, leading to a slowdown in the rainfall over the next three days.
Rising Temperatures
In western Rajasthan, including Ajmer, Bhilwara, Pali, Bikaner, Jodhpur, Nagaur, Jaisalmer, Jalore, and Barmer, the weather remained dry yesterday. Some areas experienced brief sunshine, increasing the heat and humidity. Due to the reduced rainfall and the increased influence of western winds, temperatures in western Rajasthan have started to rise. On Saturday, the maximum daytime temperatures in Barmer, Jaisalmer, and Phalodi reached 40 degrees Celsius, with Phalodi recording the highest at 40.8 degrees Celsius.
After heavy rain the previous day, temperatures in Jaipur, Sikar, and Jhunjhunu had dropped below 30 degrees Celsius but climbed to 34-36 degrees Celsius yesterday. The Jaipur Meteorological Center has issued a yellow alert for light to moderate rain today in Churu, Hanumangarh, Jhunjhunu, Sikar, Jaipur, Alwar, Bharatpur, Dausa, Dholpur, Karauli, and Sawai Madhopur. Weather experts predict another change in the weather starting July 10, with increased monsoon activity in districts of Kota, Udaipur, and Bharatpur divisions. During this period, rain is expected to resume in Dholpur, Karauli, Sawai Madhopur, Tonk, Bundi, Baran, Kota, Jhalawar, Chittorgarh, Pratapgarh, Bhilwara, Rajsamand, Udaipur, Dungarpur, and Banswara.
