Haryana Elections: INLD Planning a Comeback
With the 2024 Haryana Assembly elections fast approaching, scheduled for October 5 with results to be counted on October 8, the political scene is heating up. One of the most talked-about developments is the Indian National Lok Dal’s (INLD) potential resurgence. Led by prominent Jat politician Abhay Singh Chautala, the INLD is aiming to reclaim its former position of prominence in Haryana politics.
The INLD’s partnership with the Lokhit Party (HLP) and the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) is seen as a strategic move to appeal to rural and agricultural Jat communities and Scheduled Caste (SC) voters. This coalition, combining SC and Jat votes, is regarded by political analysts as a powerful force, particularly in regions like Bagad, where Congress once had strong influence. The emergence of influential regional figures, such as Gopal Kanda from Sirsa, further enhances the INLD’s chances of reshaping the political landscape.
The INLD-BSP-HLP coalition has presented itself as an attractive alternative to voters, especially those disillusioned by the Congress under Bhupendra Singh Hooda’s leadership. Analysts believe that this coalition could significantly influence around 30 seats in the upcoming elections, positioning the INLD as a formidable player once again in Haryana’s political arena.
