New Delhi, February 25: In an exciting Super-8 match of the T20 World Cup 2026, England faced off against Pakistan on Tuesday. England successfully chased down a target of 165 runs, thanks to a spectacular century from captain Harry Brook, securing their place in the semi-finals. Brook became the fourth player in T20 World Cup history to score a century while chasing a target.
Promoted to bat at number three, Brook made a significant impact. He reached his half-century in just 28 balls and completed his century in 50 balls, leading England to victory. His innings included 10 fours and 4 sixes, totaling 100 runs off 51 balls.
Notably, Brook is the first captain to score a century in the T20 World Cup. Alongside him, only three other players have achieved this feat while chasing: Alex Hales, Chris Gayle, and Pathum Nissanka.
Alex Hales scored a century against Sri Lanka in the 2014 T20 World Cup while chasing a target of 190 runs, finishing with an unbeaten 116 runs off 64 balls. In the 2016 T20 World Cup, Chris Gayle also scored a century against England, achieving 100 runs off 48 balls while chasing 183 runs. Pathum Nissanka made a remarkable century against Australia in the same World Cup, scoring 100 runs off 52 balls while chasing a target of 182 runs.
Among the four players who have scored centuries while chasing in T20 World Cup history, all except Harry Brook remained unbeaten.
