Surat, May 1: The Gujarat government has allocated ₹125 crore for the development of tourism in the Ukai region, with a special focus on boosting the rural economy and creating employment opportunities. This information was shared by the state’s Tourism Minister, Dr. Jayaram Gamit, during a seminar on ‘Rural, Tribal and Wedding Tourism’ at the Auro University in Surat as part of the Vibrant Gujarat Regional Conference (VGRC) held on Friday.
Gamit emphasized that rural tourism can play a significant role in economic development and is essential for realizing the dream of a self-reliant India. He detailed the state government’s efforts to develop major tourist destinations, including Saputara, which can contribute significantly to job creation in rural areas.
According to the minister, expanding tourism activities in rural and tribal regions will generate both employment and self-employment opportunities, thereby strengthening the rural economy. He further stated that tourism would enhance the visibility of agricultural products, handicrafts, and tribal culture and traditions, promoting economic growth.
Gamit also mentioned that the development of tourism would increase job and self-employment opportunities in rural and tribal areas, reinforcing the rural economy. He noted that such initiatives would support the vision of a self-reliant India, as promoted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi through tourism development.
Highlighting the potential of Gujarat, Gamit pointed out that the state’s tribal areas, coastal regions, desert landscapes, and world-class resorts offer significant opportunities for tourism expansion, including destination wedding tourism.
Tourism department official H.M. Solanki presented a detailed overview of tourism’s contribution to the state’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and outlined the opportunities for tourism development and job creation in rural and tribal areas.
The seminar was attended by tour operators, hoteliers, and other stakeholders.
