Google updated the Android brand with a new logo and a 3D robot

Ahead of the stable release of Android 14, Google is updating Android’s branding and giving it a new logo with a capital A. Additionally, the new branding features an updated 3D avatar of the Android robot that looks cuter than ever. . However, here’s everything you need to know about Android’s brand new look and feel.

The first thing that will catch your eye is that the latest rebrand has gone from Android to Android. Google currently uses a capital A in its Android logo. Why you ask: The company believes that the capital A “gives more visual appeal when placed next to the Google logo.”

Essentially, the new Android logo now follows Google’s logo design language instead of having its own identity. Companies want a uniform identity. And we want people to know that Android is theirs, even though it’s open source.

The same is reflected in a blog post that said Android’s bold new branding “will better connect Android devices to the Google apps and services people already know.”

The Android logo has been redesigned for the first time in about four years. In 2019, with the release of Android 10, Google updated its Android branding, adding an all-lowercase logo and a permanent (but flat) bot alongside the branding. Since then, it has appeared on the home screen of every Android device launched. Android 14 aims to change that and another upgrade is on the way.

In addition to the logo, Google has given Bugdroid, an Android bot, a whole new look and body. As you can see in the image below, the robot has transformed from a simple 2D logo into an adorable curvy robot with personality. Google believes Android’s new 3D mascot “can easily transition between digital and physical environments.”

“Our new visuals are inspired by Material Design to compliment and compliment Google’s branding palette,” said Jason Fournier, Android’s director of consumer brand management, in an official blog post. That’s why 3D Android mascots are painted in different colors in official materials. It matches the colorful and customizable material theme feature found in today’s Android smartphones.

Google has confirmed that the new Android logo and 3D mascot will be coming to Android devices this year. As such, the all-lowercase Android logo will be removed soon, possibly with the release of Android 14 later this month.
