Udaipur : Accepting a ride to home in a private car from the busstand in the wee hours on Thursday proved fatal to a senior official of the state excise department in Udaipur who was stabbed to death by unknown assailants. His daughter and grandchild was seated in the car with him.The assailants fled with his daughter’s purse and mobile phone after throwing them out of the car at a secluded place. The incident has come as a big shock for the police which has sealed the area. ” We have no clue of the assailants so far,CCTV footages have been sought, special team as well as entire police force of the city has been put to task to catch the murderers” DySP Bhagwat Singh Hingar told Udaipur Kiran.
Yashwant Sharma (55) resident of Sector 3 in HiranMagri area of the city had alighted opposite the bus stand at one of the private travel’s office with his daughter Neha (32) and 5 year old grandchild around 4 am. Neha was married and lived in Jabalpur. She had met with an accident recently and had come for treatment to her parent’s home. Her father had taken her to Ahmedabad for a checkup at one of the hospitals there and on Thursday morning, they had reached back.The trio waited for an autorickshaw to reach home. However,unable to find one, they started walking towards home when hardly few meters ahead a car which came from behind offered the official a ride. ” Neha told us that her father was reluctant to take the car as four men were already seated inside but since Neha wasnt well and couldnt walk too much, he agreed to take the car and the three got in.
The car driver said he would charge 100 rupees and Sharma agreed” Hingad informed. When the car took a wrong direction, Sharma objected however,the men started abusing him and when the official strongly objected, one of them took out a knife and stabbed him all over the body. The woman and child shouted and cried for help inthe moving car but the road being a new one in an isolated area, there was no one who heard them. The assailants stopped the car and threw them out and vanished in the dark. Sharma bled profusely while his daughter cried for help and aftersome time few passerby who spotted the stranded family came to help.Additional SP (city) Harsh Ratnu and police teams rushed to thespot and took the victims to hospital however, Sharma had died by then. ” The official had sustained multiple injuries, prima facie it appears to be a case of abduction. We have spoken to the victim’s family members who said that Sharma didnt have any rivalry with anybody” the police officier said.
