
On Saturday, August 10, two soldiers were martyred in an encounter between security forces and terrorists in Anantnag, Jammu and Kashmir. Three other soldiers were injured. The encounter started at 2 PM and is still ongoing.
It is believed that the terrorists entered Anantnag from the Doda area. The operation is currently focused on the Kokernag town of the district. Police received intelligence about the presence of terrorists in the area. A joint team of police and security forces began a search operation. During the search, the terrorists opened fire. There are suspected to be two to three terrorists in the area.
This is the second major encounter in Kokernag in the past year. The last one was in September 2023, where three soldiers were martyred during an encounter with terrorists in the Kokernag forest.
On Friday, August 9, the police released sketches of four terrorists. They were last seen in the Malhar, Bani, and Sojdhar Dhoks of the Kathua district. The police announced a reward of 5 lakh rupees for information on these terrorists. These terrorists were involved in an attack on an army convoy in Kathua.
On July 17, two terrorists were killed in Kupwara. The army carried out an encounter in the Keran area of Kupwara after receiving information about the presence of terrorists. Additionally, there were two other encounters in Doda on the same day, where two soldiers were injured in the terrorist attack.
