New Delhi, March 20, 2026 (Udaipur Kiran): Confusion among bank customers regarding holidays for Eid 2026 has now largely been resolved. Customers are advised to check state-wise holiday schedules and complete important banking work in advance.

As per the holiday list of the Reserve Bank of India, banks will remain closed on March 20, 2026, in select regions on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr (Ramzan) and Jummat-ul-Vida (Alvida). Banking services will be affected mainly in Srinagar and some cities of Andhra Pradesh, where branch-level services will not be available.
On March 21, 2026, banks will remain closed in most parts of the country on account of Eid-ul-Fitr. States including Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Bihar, Rajasthan, West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, Kerala, Assam, Odisha, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Uttarakhand, Goa, Chandigarh, Manipur, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram and Sikkim will observe a bank holiday.
The date of Eid depends on the sighting of the moon, commonly known as ‘Chand Raat’. If the moon is sighted on the evening of March 20, Eid will be celebrated on March 21, leading to nationwide bank closures on that day. This dependence on moon sighting led to confusion among customers this year.
March 2026 has a long list of bank holidays due to several festivals across states, including Holi, Dol Jatra, Yaosang, Chapchar Kut, Shab-e-Qadr, Gudi Padwa, Ugadi, Telugu New Year, Navratri, Eid-ul-Fitr, Ram Navami and Mahavir Jayanti.
Customers are advised to plan their banking activities in advance to avoid inconvenience. Despite branch closures, digital banking services will continue to function normally. Customers can use UPI, mobile banking and net banking for fund transfers, bill payments and other essential services.
