Udaipur, November 28 (Udaipur Kiran): The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has uncovered a transaction of Rs 331 crore linked to a Rapido bike taxi driver’s bank account in connection with a high-profile royal wedding held at Hotel Taj Aravali in Udaipur. The agency suspects the funds are proceeds of illegal betting and part of a major money laundering operation.
According to the investigation, between August 19, 2024, and April 14, 2025, an amount of Rs 331.36 crore was credited into the driver’s bank account and immediately transferred onward to multiple destinations. The ED has linked the money trail to a betting application.
During questioning, the driver denied any knowledge of such huge transactions. He told investigators that he never allowed anyone to operate his account and that his income is so limited that he cannot even afford repairs to his house. He also stated that he rarely uses digital payment services and does not regularly operate a banking app.
The ED found that the driver’s account was used as a “mule account” by persons associated with the betting app 1xBet to circulate illegal funds. Such accounts are commonly used to route money generated from unlawful activities.
The agency has linked the money to expenses incurred on the luxury wedding held in Udaipur, including decoration, hotel bookings and vendor payments, amounting to around Rs 331 crore.
The ED is now investigating who operated the account, who had access to the real login credentials, and how the financial network reached the driver. The agency suspects that several similar vulnerable individuals’ accounts were used to rotate large sums of illegal money by splitting transactions.
Payments made to companies, event managers and vendors are under scrutiny. The ED is also probing the identity of the mediator between the wedding organisers and the account holder. Following this revelation, several businessmen have also come under the radar of the Enforcement Directorate.
