E-Visa Mandatory for Indians Traveling to the UK

London, February 25: The United Kingdom has implemented significant changes to its border and immigration system, making e-visas mandatory for Indian travelers starting Wednesday. This new requirement is expected to streamline travel to the UK, enhancing both ease and security for visitors.

The e-visa will replace the traditional visa sticker in physical passports, allowing travelers to access a secure digital record linked to their UK visa and immigration account (UKVI). This change simplifies the process of applying for, storing, managing, and presenting visa information online.

While applicants will still need to visit a center for biometric registration, they will no longer be required to leave their passport documents during the processing period. The UK government asserts that with the introduction of the e-visa, travelers will be able to view their visa details directly through their online UKVI account, with all information securely stored in digital format, reducing the risk of fraud.

Travelers arriving in the UK will also need to obtain a digital travel authorization, meaning that airlines may deny boarding to those without a valid e-visa, ETA, or other acceptable documents.

It is noteworthy that the e-visa system was initiated last year, and physical documents were accepted until this week. Biometric residence permits, biometric residence cards, and paper stamps will no longer be issued, and existing applicants for physical documents will automatically transition to digital status without needing to reapply.

Additionally, visitors from 85 countries, including the USA, Canada, and France, who previously did not require a visa, will now need an ETA when traveling to the UK.
