ANM Suicide Case

According to officials, the investigation was led by Additional Superintendent of Police (Vallabhnagar) Rajendra Jain after a complaint was filed by the deceased’s elder brother, Radheshyam. He reported that his sister Anita (35), daughter of Goruram Meena, was working as an ANM at a Community Health Centre in Kanod. Her body was found under suspicious circumstances on the staircase of the government quarter of Medical Officer Dr Surendra Bijaraniya.

The complaint stated that the doctor had an illicit relationship with the victim and had allegedly been promising marriage but later refused. During the investigation, police arrested Dr Surendra Bijaraniya, who admitted to having a relationship with the deceased during initial questioning.

Police said the victim had been pressuring the doctor for marriage, leading to repeated disputes, especially after the doctor got married in December. On the night of April 15, a heated argument reportedly took place between the two before the incident.

Officials said that during the argument, the doctor stepped out of the quarter after receiving a call from his wife. During that time, the ANM allegedly hanged herself from a ceiling fan using a cloth.

When the doctor returned, he found the door locked from inside. After breaking it open, he discovered the victim hanging. He then brought the body down and dragged it from the first floor to the ground floor and placed it in his car.

Police said the doctor informed the victim’s younger sister in Sikar and claimed he was bringing the body. However, after being told by the family to leave the body at the location, he abandoned it on the staircase and fled.

Upon receiving information, the family reached Udaipur, and the body was shifted to MB Hospital. Under the supervision of Superintendent of Police Dr Amrita Duhan, the investigation progressed, leading to the arrest of the accused.

The doctor, who was on night duty on the day of the incident, was found missing from the hospital. Police launched a search operation and detained him around 1 am from Manglawad area in Chittorgarh district before handing him over to Kanod Police.

The victim’s brother has also filed a case accusing the doctor of physical and mental harassment and sexual exploitation.
