New Delhi, May 1: The IPL 2026 season started with a bang for the Delhi Capitals (DC), who secured victories against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and the Mumbai Indians (MI) in their first two matches. The standout performer was a young, uncapped player, Samir Rizvi, whose explosive batting played a crucial role in these wins. However, his form has since dipped dramatically, leading to a string of losses for the team.
Rizvi, a 22-year-old right-handed batsman, was the hero in both opening matches. He scored an impressive 70 runs off 47 balls against LSG, helping DC recover from a precarious position of 26 runs for 4 wickets. In the following match against MI, he scored 90 runs off 51 balls, further solidifying his reputation as a match-winner.
Despite his early success, Rizvi has struggled in the subsequent five innings, managing only 49 runs. This decline in form has contributed to DC’s disappointing record, with the team losing five out of six matches since those initial victories.
As the tournament approaches a critical juncture, DC currently sits seventh in the standings with three wins and six points from eight matches. To keep their playoff hopes alive, the team must win at least five of their next six matches, making Rizvi’s performance essential. All eyes will be on him as DC faces Rajasthan in their upcoming match on Friday.
