Custodial Death Sparks Outrage in Rishabhdev After Jeweller Dies During Police Interrogation

Rishabhdev, Udaipur: Tension flared late Monday night at Rishabhdev police station in Udaipur district after a jeweller died while in police custody. The deceased, Suresh Panchal (50), a jewellery shop owner from Bichhiwada in Dungarpur district, had been brought in for questioning in connection with the alleged purchase of stolen goods.

As news of his death spread, angry family members and relatives began protesting outside the police station around 8 PM, raising slogans against the police. The protest continued until late into the night.

According to available information, Rishabhdev police had taken Suresh Panchal into custody from Bichhiwada around 4:30 PM on Monday. While at the station, Panchal’s health reportedly deteriorated, prompting officers to rush him to the nearby Rishabhdev hospital. However, doctors declared him dead on arrival.

The family has alleged that Suresh died due to brutal torture during police interrogation. His two sons, Himanshu and Nayan, along with his wife Usha, reached Rishabhdev upon receiving the news. Tensions escalated as family members refused to allow police to remove the body from the ambulance, demanding accountability.

By late night, large crowds had gathered outside both the police station and the hospital, demanding justice and protesting police brutality.
