New Delhi, July 30: The ongoing Monsoon Session of Parliament is expected to witness more disruptions on its ninth day. The Congress party is set to launch a protest against the government for allegedly preventing Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi from speaking in the Lok Sabha. Congress MPs will gather at the Makar Dwar before the parliamentary proceedings begin.
According to reports, all Congress MPs will raise the issue of Rahul Gandhi’s address during the protest at 10:30 AM. Prior to this, a meeting of floor leaders from the ‘India’ bloc has been scheduled for 10 AM.
On Wednesday, chaos erupted during Rahul Gandhi’s speech in Parliament. He had raised concerns regarding police action against students during a march, while discussing the Anti-Paper Leak Bill. During his address, he used terms like ‘idiot’ and ‘blind followers,’ which drew objections from the ruling party. He later accused Union Home Minister Amit Shah of firing on students.
In response, Kiren Rijiju demanded an apology from Rahul Gandhi or a presentation of facts. The uproar continued, leading to the suspension of the House’s proceedings for the day.
Meanwhile, the Anti-Paper Leak Bill (Amendment Bill, 2026) is set to be presented in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday, with discussions expected to commence around 2 PM.
Additionally, Congress MP Manish Tewari has submitted a notice for a suspension of business in the Lok Sabha to discuss the framework of a new anti-defection law. He urged the government to suspend the day’s proceedings to allow for a comprehensive discussion on this urgent matter.
