Cold Wave Weakens in Bengal, Temperatures Likely to Rise
Kolkata, 19 November (Udaipur Kiran). The mild winter chill felt across West Bengal in recent days is expected to weaken, with forecasts indicating a rise in both day and night temperatures. According to the Meteorological Department, the combined influence of active easterly winds and an approaching western disturbance over North India will lead to warmer conditions across the state.

Weather officials said that the strengthening of easterly winds over South Bengal will increase moisture levels in the air, resulting in a noticeable rise in minimum temperatures. Meanwhile, due to the western disturbance over North India, the flow of cold north-westerly winds is likely to slow down from November 20, reducing the chances of any significant drop in temperatures in Bengal.
The Met department also indicated the possibility of light to moderate rainfall over the next two days in the hilly regions of North Bengal and Sikkim, influenced by this weather system.
At the same time, a new cyclonic circulation is likely to form over the Bay of Bengal by the weekend, which may later develop into a low-pressure area. Its impact is expected to bring cloudy skies and increased humidity over the coastal districts of South Bengal in the last week of November. Due to these evolving conditions, the chances of winter setting in early this year have become very slim.
In Kolkata, temperatures are already on an upward trend. On Tuesday, the city recorded a maximum of 29.3°C and a minimum of 18.4°C. The department predicts that the minimum temperature may rise further to around 21°C by Friday, reducing the cold sensation even more.
