Cold Wave Grips Madhya Pradesh, Alert Issued for Seven Districts

Bhopal, 22 November (Udaipur Kiran)। A severe cold wave continues to grip Madhya Pradesh, with winter showing its full impact much earlier this year. The Meteorological Department has issued a cold wave alert for the next 48 hours in Bhopal, Indore, Ujjain, Gwalior, Jabalpur, Rewa and Shahdol districts. Pachmarhi remained the coldest place in the state as night temperatures dropped sharply in many cities.

Cold Wave

According to weather officials, icy winds from the north have triggered a strong cold wave across the state over the past few days. On Thursday-Friday night, the temperature in Pachmarhi, the state’s only hill station, slipped to 5.8°C for the first time this season. Dense fog was reported in Narmadapuram, where the visibility dropped to 500–1,000 metres. In Bhopal and Indore, temperatures remained below 10°C.

Night temperatures recorded in major cities were: Bhopal 9.6°C, Indore 8.4°C, Gwalior 12.8°C, Ujjain 11.5°C, and Jabalpur 11.1°C. Meanwhile, Naugaon (Chhatarpur) 8.5°C, Khargone 8.8°C, Narsinghpur 9°C, Khandwa 9.4°C, Rajgarh 8°C and Umaria 10.2°C. Many other cities also reported a dip in temperatures.

Cold winds prevailed in Bhopal on Friday, along with hazy conditions in several areas. Fog was also seen in Narmadapuram, Jabalpur and other cities during the morning.

Meteorologists said the ongoing chill is due to cold winds blowing from northern parts of the country. A change in wind pattern over the next two to three days may bring slight relief. However, temperatures are expected to fall further with the arrival of December, intensifying the cold across the state.
