Central Government Announces 3% DA Hike for Employees

Mumbai, October 30: In a significant update for central government employees, the government has announced a 3% increase in the Dearness Allowance (DA), bringing the total to 63%. This announcement was made on October 28, just ahead of the Diwali festival.
The DA is revised twice a year, with adjustments made in January and July. Since 2016, the DA has seen a remarkable increase from just 2% to the current 63%.
Over the past few years, the DA has fluctuated based on inflation rates. Initially, in 2016, employees received a DA of 125% under the 6th Pay Commission, but this dropped to zero with the implementation of the 7th Pay Commission. The DA was then increased by 2% in July 2016, and has steadily risen since.
For instance, in 2017, the DA increased to 5%, followed by 9% in 2018, and an 8% increase in 2019, bringing it to 17%. However, in 2020, the government froze the DA due to economic conditions. The DA was subsequently raised to 31% in 2021, 38% in 2022, and 46% in 2023.
With this latest increase, employees with a basic salary of ₹18,000 will see their DA rise from ₹10,800 to ₹11,340, resulting in an additional ₹540 per month, or ₹6,480 annually.
This adjustment reflects the government’s ongoing commitment to support its employees amid rising inflation.
