Kolkata, February 1 – The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has finalized the charge formation process in the multi-crore financial scam at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, a state-run institution. According to CBI officials, the agency will formally submit the charges before the Special Court in Kolkata on Tuesday.

Judicial Proceedings & Court Directives
- The Special Court Judge has mandated that all five accused must be physically present in court during the charge framing process.
- Once the charges are officially framed, the trial proceedings will commence in the same court.
Key Accused in the Case
The five individuals currently in judicial custody include:
- Dr. Sandeep Ghosh – Former Principal, RG Kar Medical College
- Officer Ali – Assistant & Bodyguard of the Former Principal
- Biplab Sinha – Private Contractor
- Suman Hazra – Private Contractor
- Dr. Ashish Pandey – Junior Doctor
CBI’s Investigation & Legal Proceedings
- On January 28, Justice Tirthankar Ghosh of the Calcutta High Court had directed the CBI to complete the charge-framing process by February 6.
- The State Government has now provided the required No Objection Certificate (NOC), which had previously delayed the legal proceedings.
- The CBI had already filed its chargesheet in November 2024, but the trial was stalled due to procedural hurdles.
State Government’s Role & Delay in Proceedings
- The prosecution process was delayed due to the absence of a required NOC from the State Government.
- Under Indian law, any prosecution against government employees requires prior approval from the relevant authorities.
- Now that all legal clearances are in place, the CBI is determined to expedite the trial.
