Bank Holidays Ahead: Limited Banking Services This Week

Mumbai, March 26: Many banks across the country are closed today, March 26, in observance of Ram Navami. Major cities including Mumbai, Ahmedabad, and Kolkata will see bank branches shut down. According to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) calendar, banks will remain closed in several key locations such as Ahmedabad, Aizawl, Belapur, Chandigarh, Dehradun, Jaipur, Kanpur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, and Shimla.

It is important to note that bank holidays vary by state and local festivals, meaning not all banks nationwide will be closed simultaneously. In Uttar Pradesh, the government has declared a two-day holiday for Ram Navami.

The last week of March will significantly impact banking services, with banks only open for one day between March 26 and March 31. Customers are advised to complete their essential banking tasks ahead of time. Banks will be closed on March 26 and 27 due to Ram Navami, followed by a closure on March 28 for the fourth Saturday of the month, and a Sunday closure on March 29. Banks will reopen on March 30 (Monday).

However, the relief will be short-lived, as banks will again be closed on March 31 for Mahavir Jayanti. Thus, during this period, banks will only be operational on March 30.

Online banking, UPI, and ATM services will continue to function, but customers should plan ahead for in-branch services such as cheque clearance and cash deposits.

Earlier in March, banks were closed for four consecutive days due to Holi, causing inconvenience to many. Now, another stretch of holidays is set to affect banking services.

According to the RBI calendar, March 2026 has a total of 18 bank holidays, including festivals and Sundays, most of which have already passed.

Why is Ram Navami Celebrated? Ram Navami marks the birth anniversary of Lord Rama, who is considered an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. This day is celebrated across the country with prayers, fasting, and devotion.
