New Delhi, May 1: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has made significant strides in a bribery case by arresting the Additional Director of the Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS) based in Meerut, along with her personal assistant. The arrests were made following allegations that the Additional Director demanded a bribe of ₹80,000 for facilitating the transfer of an employee from Moradabad to Meerut.
According to CBI officials, the case was registered on Thursday, leading to a well-planned operation. During the investigation, the accused, Additional Director Natasha Verma and her personal assistant Sunny, agreed to accept a bribe of ₹50,000 from the complainant. As soon as the personal assistant accepted the bribe on behalf of the Additional Director, the CBI team apprehended him red-handed. Both accused were immediately arrested following this operation.
The entire incident took place at the Health Building of CGHS on Surajkund Road, Meerut, where the illegal transaction was being conducted. The agency has also initiated inquiries into other potential aspects of the case to determine if others were involved in this corruption. Currently, both accused are in custody and are being interrogated as the investigation continues.
In a related development, the CBI has intensified its actions in a major cyber fraud case linked to ‘digital arrests,’ filing a chargesheet against five accused, including a private company, on April 25. Three of the named accused are currently in judicial custody. This case was registered by the CBI on November 24, 2025, following directives from the Kerala High Court. The investigation revealed that cybercriminals impersonated law enforcement agencies and judicial officials to target a senior citizen, ultimately defrauding him of over ₹1.8 crore through fake notices.
