Udaipur, May 11, 2026 (Udaipur Kiran) – A major accident was averted after a sleeper bus carrying around 40 passengers caught fire on the Udaipur-Ahmedabad National Highway (NH-48) in Salumber district on Monday.

The incident took place in front of the Parsad police station area when the bus, travelling from Udaipur to Ahmedabad, suddenly caught fire. Panic spread among passengers as flames rapidly engulfed the vehicle. Some passengers reportedly escaped by jumping out through the emergency window.
According to police, smoke was first noticed inside the bus at around 3 pm. As soon as the driver and conductor became aware of the situation, they immediately asked passengers to get off the bus.
Within a short time, the fire intensified and massive flames were seen rising from the vehicle. Fire brigade teams were called to the spot and later brought the blaze under control.
Police temporarily halted traffic on the highway during the rescue and firefighting operation.
Station House Officer Naresh Kumar Meena said necessary instructions were issued immediately after information about the incident was received. He confirmed that the fire has now been controlled.
Police said preliminary investigation suggests the fire may have been caused by a short circuit, though the exact reason will be confirmed only after a detailed inquiry.
