There’s great news for BSNL users across India. The state-owned telecom company is preparing to launch 5G services soon after completing its ambitious 4G rollout project, providing millions of customers with much-awaited high-speed connectivity. The announcement comes directly from Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, who confirmed that BSNL will begin transitioning from 4G to 5G by May or June 2025.

4G Rollout Nears Completion with 1 Lakh Tower Target
BSNL has been working rapidly to deploy its nationwide 4G network, targeting the installation of 1 lakh towers. So far, around 89,000 towers have already been installed, with the remaining expected to be completed in the coming weeks.
The company’s 4G infrastructure is being developed with future upgrades in mind. Most of the towers are being equipped to support easy upgradation to 5G through minimal hardware and software adjustments, significantly reducing transition time and cost.
BSNL’s 5G Services to Begin Rollout by Mid-2025
Speaking to the media, Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia revealed that BSNL’s 5G deployment will begin as early as June 2025, soon after the 4G tower project concludes. This marks a critical step in bridging the gap with private telecom giants like Reliance Jio, Airtel, and Vi, all of whom have already launched 5G services across major cities.
BSNL’s 5G launch is expected to significantly boost digital infrastructure, particularly in rural and underserved areas, where the company has a strong presence. Millions of BSNL users will benefit from improved connectivity, faster internet speeds, and enhanced telecom services.
India Becomes Fifth Nation with Indigenous 4G Tech
Minister Scindia also highlighted India’s technological advancements, stating that India is now the fifth country in the world with its own 4G technology, joining the ranks of South Korea, China, Finland, and Sweden. This achievement reflects India’s growing self-reliance in the telecom sector.
In parallel, the Sanchar Sathi portal has taken strong steps to improve telecom security, having blocked over 1.75 crore fake mobile numbers to curb fraud and protect users.
What This Means for BSNL Users
- Faster Internet: BSNL users will soon enjoy 5G speeds, especially in areas where 4G is already live.
- Network Expansion: With over 1 lakh towers, BSNL will offer stronger signal strength and coverage, even in remote locations.
- Tech Upgrade: BSNL’s transition strategy ensures cost-effective and efficient upgrades to 5G.
With this development, BSNL is set to re-enter the telecom race with renewed energy, promising better connectivity and services for both urban and rural customers.
