Chennai, September 28 (Udaipur Kiran News) – In a move to modernise its telecom offerings, BSNL Chennai Telephones has announced the launch of eSIM services for local users along with the rollout of international prepaid roaming in collaboration with StarHub Singapore. The dual launch marks a major step toward digitisation and global connectivity for the state-run telecom operator.

BSNL eSIM Now Available in Chennai
The newly introduced eSIM service eliminates the need for physical SIM cards by embedding a digital SIM directly into compatible smartphones. This allows users to activate BSNL connections seamlessly, switch between multiple profiles, and enjoy enhanced security.
Under the tagline “No SIM, No Limits – BSNL eSIM now in Chennai Telephones”, customers can activate their eSIMs through BSNL customer service centres or by contacting the helpline. The move aligns BSNL with global telecom operators that have already adopted eSIM technology.
International Roaming with StarHub Singapore
BSNL has also started prepaid international roaming services for Chennai subscribers on StarHub’s LTE network in Singapore, effective August 4, 2025.
The tariff structure includes:
-
Outgoing SMS: ₹7.95 per message
-
Incoming SMS: Free
-
Data: ₹0.0037 per 10KB
Voice over LTE (VoLTE) services are currently under testing and will be introduced later.
To access the roaming facility, users must switch to a new international Dual IMSI SIM and activate one of the following plans:
-
STV IR57 – Valid for 30 days
-
STV IR167 – Valid for 90 days
A Step Toward Digital Transformation
With these launches, BSNL aims to keep pace with private players and cater to the growing demands of digital-first consumers. The eSIM rollout enhances convenience and flexibility for domestic users, while international roaming ensures seamless connectivity abroad.
These initiatives reflect BSNL’s strategy to rebuild market relevance as it prepares to expand 4G coverage and explore 5G readiness across India.
