
The next Borderlands game will be developed by publisher 2K earlier this year. Now Randy Pitchford, head of Borderlands developer Gearbox, appears to be teasing the title, saying it may not be long before we hear an official announcement about the studio’s next game. Although he didn’t reveal the name of the game, the executive said that fans will be “very happy” with Gearbox’s next project. Pitchford’s comments came just ahead of Borderlands, which is set to hit theaters on August 9th.

In an interview with GamesRadar+, Pitchford mentioned the next Borderlands title without specifically mentioning Borderlands 4. According to the studio head, an official announcement of the next project will not be long in coming. It has now been confirmed that the studio is working on the next installment in the Borderlands series.
“I’m sure our fans will be very happy when we’re ready to announce our next video game project,” Pitchford told GamesRadar+. The announcement has been awaited for a long time. ”
Pitchford said Gearbox is working on “big things” and the studio has several projects in development. Previous leaks suggested that the studio could be working on a sequel to Tiny Tina’s Wonderland alongside Borderlands 4. A Gearbox employee’s LinkedIn profile says the developer has two games in the works.
The last main game in the Borderlands series was Borderlands 3 in 2019. The spin-off Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands was released in 2022. The Borderlands film starring Cate Blanchett, Kevin Hart and Jack Black is scheduled to hit theaters on August 9th. .
In comments to GamesRadar+, Pitchford also hinted at a new Borderlands sequel, saying an announcement about the game could come “before the end of the year” or “probably sooner.”
Take-Two Interactive acquired Gearbox from Embracer Group in March in a deal worth $460 million (roughly Rs. 3,851 crore). In a press release confirming the acquisition, Take-Two said that Gearbox and 2K are actively developing the next installment in the Borderlands series. Take-Two said at the time: “Gearbox currently has six major interactive entertainment projects in various stages of development, including five sequels to the Borderlands and Homeworld series and at least one exciting sequel. Including new intellectual property.”
