Guwahati, May 1: Assam Minister Jayant Malla Barua expressed confidence on Friday regarding the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) prospects in the upcoming assembly elections, predicting a significant majority for the ruling party. He stated that the BJP would secure victories in all three assembly seats in the Nalbari district.
Speaking to reporters, Barua asserted that the BJP-led coalition is on track for a decisive win across the state, forecasting that the voices of the opposition would become irrelevant after the results are declared on May 4. He emphasized that discussions surrounding Congress-led parties would also lose significance post-election.
Indirectly targeting key opposition leaders from Congress and its allied parties, he claimed that voters have already made up their minds in favor of the ruling coalition.
Barua reiterated that the BJP would win all three assembly seats in Nalbari district, highlighting the tremendous grassroots support the party has received during its campaign and outreach programs.
He further claimed that the BJP would secure at least 90 seats in Assam’s 126-member assembly, suggesting that crossing the 100-seat mark would not be surprising given the support the party has garnered.
“We expect to win at least 90 seats this time. If the number reaches 100, it should not come as a surprise,” he stated.
Comparing to the previous elections, Barua noted that the BJP had won 20 out of 51 seats in lower Assam. However, he asserted that the party’s position in the region has significantly strengthened over the past five years, expressing confidence in winning at least 35 seats this time.
