Bihar to Fill Over 27,000 Teacher Posts Soon, Education Minister Confirms

The Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) will release the notification for the TRE 4.0 teacher recruitment by January 26, according to Education Minister Sunil Kumar. Speaking to journalists in Bhore, Gopalganj, the minister shared that more than 27,000 teaching vacancies will be filled across primary, middle, and plus-two levels in this fourth phase.

The education department has requested updated vacancy details from all districts. Once the roster is prepared, the formal recruitment process will begin. The department is coordinating closely with BPSC to ensure timely completion of the recruitment. The government aims to fully address teacher shortages in schools and improve education quality through this recruitment drive.

However, 23 districts have yet to send their vacancy data, causing delays. Currently, only 15 out of 38 districts, including Rohtas, Bhojpur, Aurangabad, West Champaran, Shivhar, Patna, Muzaffarpur, Bhagalpur, Banka, and Gaya, have submitted information for classes 1 to 12. Teacher vacancies for the TRE 4 exam will be sent to BPSC only after all districts provide data and roster clearance is obtained.

The state has asked for vacancy details covering 78,000 teaching posts from primary to higher secondary schools. Senior officials in the education department are guiding districts through letters and video conferences. Despite strict instructions from Additional Chief Secretary Dr. B. Rajender, some districts are still yet to respond.

Earlier, the education minister had stated in September that vacancy information would be submitted to BPSC by the end of September and that the TRE 4 exam would be completed by December. The TRE 5 recruitment is planned for 2026. The department had also planned to conduct STET exams for all subjects and declare results by November 16, but exams are still ongoing in various subjects.

It is estimated that nearly one lakh teaching vacancies exist across different districts. Recruitment will be conducted in two phases. Over the last two years, BPSC has recruited a total of 2,68,548 teachers in three phases, with 1,02,871 in the first phase and 69,500 in the second.

This time, domicile rules will apply in the TRE 4 recruitment. Approximately 85 percent of seats will be reserved for Bihar residents, while 15 percent will be available to candidates from other states and those whose matriculation and intermediate education was completed outside Bihar. The domicile rule aims to provide better opportunities for Bihar youth to become teachers.

For teacher recruitment up to class 5, 50 percent reservation is reserved for Bihar women candidates, while other categories have 35 percent reservation for women from Bihar. Previous recruitment phases included female candidates from states like Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand as well.
