Ujjain, August 2: The holy month of Sawan is in full swing, attracting a large number of devotees to the Shri Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga Temple. On Sunday, Bihar’s Minister and National General Secretary of Janata Dal United, Ashok Kumar Chaudhary, visited the temple accompanied by his daughter and MP Shambhavi Chaudhary. They offered prayers and sought blessings from Lord Mahakal.
Speaking to the media, Ashok Chaudhary shared, “I have been visiting the Mahakaleshwar Temple regularly for about 25 years. I make it a point to come during the Sawan month, but I also visit three to four times a year at other times. My faith and devotion towards Mahakal are strong.”
The temple gates opened at 3 AM, and as soon as they did, devotees rushed to the sanctum sanctorum, chanting “Jai Shri Mahakal.” The Sawan month is particularly significant for visiting Mahakal, resulting in a much higher turnout of devotees compared to regular days.
Early Sunday morning, after seeking blessings from Lord Veerabhadra, the doors of Baba Mahakal were opened with the sound of drums and trumpets. Following the divine adornment and Bhasma Aarti, the temple reverberated with the chants of “Jai Shri Mahakal” as devotees got their first glimpse of the deity.
As the temple gates opened, the ritual of water abhishekam was performed, using Panchamrit made from milk, yogurt, ghee, sugar, and fruit juices. After the abhishekam, special adornments were made with Lord Mahakal’s trident, tripundra, and damru, along with offerings of bhang.
The Sawan month is regarded as especially auspicious for visiting Mahakal, leading to a significant increase in the number of devotees. The atmosphere around the Mahakal Temple in Ujjain is filled with devotion during this time, attracting people from across the country seeking blessings from Baba Mahakal.
