Baran Municipal Commissioner and Fire Officer Arrested for ₹2.5 Lakh Bribe

Jaipur, October 18 (Udaipur Kiran): In a major anti-corruption action, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Kota unit on Friday caught Baran Municipal Council Commissioner Moti Shankar Nagar and Assistant Fire Officer Uvesh Sheikh red-handed while accepting a bribe of ₹2.5 lakh.

According to ACB Additional Director General of Police, Smt. Smita Srivastava, the Kota ACB office had received a complaint on October 9, 2025, alleging that the officials were demanding a bribe of ₹5 lakh from a businessman in exchange for not harassing him during his business operations.

Following the complaint, the ACB verified the bribe demand on October 15 and October 17. After confirmation, a trap was laid on October 18 under the supervision of DIG Police Anand Sharma and led by Additional SP ACB Kota Vijay Swarnkar, with Deputy SP Tarachand conducting the operation.

During the trap, Uvesh Sheikh received ₹2.5 lakh from the complainant in his office and placed the money in the storage compartment of his scooter. The ACB team apprehended him red-handed as he attempted to leave the premises. Later, Commissioner Moti Shankar Nagar was detained from his official residence.

ACB officials said that interrogation and further investigation are ongoing under the supervision of DIG Anand Sharma. A case has been registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act for further legal proceedings.
