Bajaj Chetak may get new battery pack option soon. Check details

Bajaj Chetak 3201

According to several media reports, Bajaj Chetak, India’s only electric two-wheeler manufacturer, is set to receive further updates. According to reports, the Bajaj Chetak series will come with a new battery pack with the same cells as the Bajaj Chetak 3201 Special Edition. In the Chetak series, these new cells are intended to increase range and power efficiency.

Bajaj recently changed its battery cell supplier to source more energy efficient components. The new battery pack helped the company increase the range of the Chetak from 126 km to 130 km while maintaining the same capacity.

The move to the new cell will also see Bajaj update the naming convention of the Chetak version. Now the base Chetak 2901 is named after its 2.9 kWh battery. Premium and Urbain are expected to follow a similar naming strategy.

The Bajaj Chetak 3201 Special Edition was launched earlier this year at a price of Rs 1.29 lakh (ex-showroom, Bengaluru) and is available exclusively on Amazon. Compared to the standard model, the new special edition has special upgrades in the form of cosmetic and functional updates.

Bajaj Chetak is gaining popularity lately. The Chetak, which was already under the radar, quickly became the third best-selling electric scooter in the country.

This growth is due to increased availability, the introduction of more affordable variants and continuous product improvement. Interestingly, Bajaj Auto has announced that the company sold 17,642 units of the Chetak in July 2024, an increase of 375% year-on-year.

Meanwhile, Bajaj Chetak sold 84,225 units during January-July this year, up 213% year-on-year. However, Bajaj Khodro’s market share in the electric two-wheeler market increased from 5.51% to 16.49%.
