New Delhi, December 24 (Udaipur Kiran) – The Indian civil aviation sector is set to welcome new competition as two new airlines, Al Hind Air and FlyXpress, prepare to begin operations. Both companies have received No Objection Certificates (NOC) from the Ministry of Civil Aviation.
Al Hind Air and FlyXpress have already secured government approval to commence flights. In addition to these, Uttar Pradesh-based Shankh Air has also been granted an NOC earlier. These airlines are expected to start operations in 2026. The government’s move aims to encourage competition in the aviation sector, which has been dominated by a few major players.
Civil Aviation Minister K. Ram Mohan Naidu stated that promoting more airlines in India’s rapidly expanding aviation market remains a key focus of the ministry. Currently, nine domestic airlines operate regular services across the country. He added that schemes like ‘Udaan’ have enabled smaller carriers such as Star Air, India One Air, and Fly91 to play an important role in enhancing regional connectivity, with further growth potential ahead.
According to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), besides Air India, Air India Express, Indigo, and the public sector Alliance Air, other carriers include Akasa Air, SpiceJet, Star Air, Fly91, and India One Air. Several airlines, including Go First and Jet Airways, have ceased operations in recent years due to financial difficulties. Regional airline Fly Big suspended regular flights in October. Indigo and the Air India group (Air India and Air India Express) currently hold over 90 percent of the domestic market share.
