According to passengers, airlines are charging separate fees for seat selection despite already high ticket fares. Travellers booking a flight from Bhopal to Delhi for around Rs 8,000 may reportedly have to pay an additional Rs 1,000 to Rs 1,300 to choose seats inside the aircraft.

Similar charges are also being applied on flights to other destinations.

Airlines have now divided seating arrangements into different sectors along with business class and economy categories. According to the report, the aircraft seating area has broadly been divided into four sectors.

During boarding, business class passengers are given priority first. After that, passengers from Economy A, Economy B and Economy C sectors are called one after another for check-in and boarding procedures.

Passengers have raised objections over the practice, alleging that airlines are creating multiple seating categories and adding extra charges despite already expensive airfares.
